Modern & Traditional Kitchen, NYC
KOHN ARCHITECTURE has a lot of background in working with a range of styles. For instance, Kohn has worked with traditional and modern designs, with blends of different styles to meet a range of design and taste requirements.
The transitional-style kitchen designed for a Classic Six apartment on Manhattan’s Upper West Side blends traditional design elements with modern details. The custom built-in cabinets with dark slate countertops contrast with the light-framed cabinets. A traditional farmhouse-style sink and rustic tile backsplash contrast with the industrial feel of the light fixtures. Additionally, integral framed wood panes subtly conceal a cabinet-depth SubZero refrigerator. Unique oak herringbone floors flow throughout the kitchen and into the open living area of the apartment.
This ultra-modern open kitchen was designed to be the central hub of a four-bedroom Upper East Side apartment. The white Caesarstone countertops and built-in appliances create a sleek minimalistic look. However, the warmth of the natural walnut veneer on the inward-facing cabinets keeps the kitchen from becoming stark and cold. Sculptural chrome, glass and wood shelving, and integrated lighting further brighten the design to create a unique kitchen/family gathering center.
