KOHN ARCHITECTURE inspected and evaluated a large 2 story duplex greenhouse/skylight on the 13th floor of a building. Not only was the skylight leaking, it was also in a landmarked district. After testing the leak, we determined it became clear the the skylight needed replacing. We located the original structure’s manufacturer and worked with them to design a replacement greenhouse/skylight. This new skylight would address today’s energy codes, remedy a snow buildup problem, fix flashing problems, and be acceptable to the Landmarks Preservation Commission. We also worked with the sidewalk bridge company and erector to develop a strategy for hoisting the new structures up 13 floors and into place.
